Happy Wanderers Take on Coombe Hill - pictures.

Coombe Hill at 852 feet above sea level is the highest viewpoint in the Chiltern Hills providing extensive views over the Aylesbury Vale all the way to the Cotswolds, weathe permitting.

The hill once belonged to the Chequers Estate. In 1918 Lord and Lady Lee of Fareham gave it to the Country, the larger part to the National Trust with Chequers House handed to the Government as a country retreat for the serving prime minister.

The view point has a monument dedicated to the men from Buckinghamshire who gave their lives in the Boer War and a obelisk directing your attention to the landmarks. This obelisk was recently destroyed by vandals.

Although a daunting ascent for many of the Happy Wanderers, all those who started reached the top, the evidence in the pictures below.

The Lacey Green and Loosley Row Litter Pick.

This was organised by the Parish Council and supported by the WI who provided teas coffees and cakes to all the volunteers and the school who provided the hi-vis jackets for the children.

Wycombe Council provided the pickers and bags and are collecting the rubbish from the village hall.

We had about 30 plus people and the sun shone for us which was great. A huge haul of litter from the verges around the village - from the more usual cans, crisp packets, wing mirrors and hub cabs, to the more unusual, a plastic Christmas tree and an American Civil war re-enactment photo album.

A huge thank you to everyone for their support.

Liz Patient - Parish Councillor

Bette Tyler reaches 90.

21 Nov. 18

The heating had to be turned up because the front door was open more than closed as all day a steady stream of friends turned up to wish Bette a Happpy Birthday.

The History Exhibition 2018

This years exhibition on Rememberance Weekend had three subjects -

  1. The End of the First World War - 100 years exactly on Remberance Sunday
  2. The Royal Air Force was created 100 years ago
  3. Suffragettes - its 70 years since Women won the right to Vote

Most of the display was in the form of text and pictures but there were many replica airoplanes and a 'Tommy' hat not to mention some real suffragettes that terrified everyone in the vacinity.

Happy Wanderers Weekend Away

Lechlade-on-Thames & Bourton-on-the-Water

For information about these places click on their names above.

It was raining when we arrived and had been all morning and only a dozen of us braved the walk along the Thames path beyond what was the navigable part of the Thames. In other words the river got too narrow and twisty for barges.

But guess what? After walking just two hundred yards it stopped raining and stayed that way until we returned for tea.

Happy Wanderers Short Walks

It was probably about fifteen years ago that a few of us "Happy
Wanderers" found the Sunday walks (last one of the month) too long.
We decided to start a mid-week shorter and slower ramble.
We meet 10am 2nd Wed of month at the Village Hall, but often drive
a short distance from there and then enjoy a leisurely stroll,
with pauses to absorb the beauty of the countryside and,
of course, the pleasure of others' company.

We are a small group and are always pleased to see new faces.

Lacey Green Short Mat Bowls Club

If you are interested in playing, the club meets at 2pm every Monday afternoon at the Village Hall. Just come along.

Membership is £20 (once only) which is what we all paid to buy the mats to start us off. It's then £2 per session but only if you are there. If you just want to try it out first, its £2.

Please bring indoor flat shoes (or just your socks) to protect the mats.
